South Hadley, Mass. - March 16, 2022 - Senior Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) of the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team has been selected to compete at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be hosted at the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. from Wednesday, March 16 through Saturday, March 19. The last time Mount Holyoke sent a student-athlete to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships was when Samantha Nemivant '20 qualified for the one-meter and three-meter boards in 2018.

There are 29 female divers that compete at the NCAA Division III Championships. In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, a diver has to qualify for a regional diving meet by meeting the diving score on one of the boards during the season, twice during regular competition and once at conference championships. Based on the number of divers that have qualified in each of the four regions, they take the percentage of the 29 from each region. The more divers at a regional meet, the more spots are allocated. The Northeast Region III allocated seven spots and from there, the top divers from each region qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Murphy punched her ticket to Indianapolis at the NCAA Division III Northeast Diving Regionals as the senior notched a third-place finish on the 11-dive one-meter board by posting a score of 413.90. On the second day of competition, Murphy claimed fifth place in the 11-dive three-meter board by recording a mark of 396.00.

Murphy was one of seven student-athletes that qualified as diving individuals from Region III. Joining Mutphy is Sydney Bluestein and Hannah Karlin from Amherst College, Adelaide Herman from Williams College, Rachel Loh from MIT, Issara Schmidt from NYU, and Sadie Smith from Bowdoin College.

Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corp are hosting the championships from Wednesday, March 16 through Saturday, March 19 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The women's one-meter diving will be on Thursday, March 17 and the women's three-meter diving will be on Saturday, March 19. A live webstream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com for all four sessions.
