Soccer Closes Season With 5-0 Loss to Babson in NEWMAC Play

South Hadley, Mass. - November 2, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team wrapped up the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons fell to visiting Babson College, 5-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at the MHC Soccer Field. Prior to the contest, the Lyons honored the six members of their senior class for their dedication to the program over the past four years.

With the loss, the Lyons end the year with a record of 2-16-1 overall and 0-10 in NEWMAC play, while the Beavers improved to 8-8-2 on the year with a 4-4-2 mark against league opponents. With their win today, Babson clinched the No. 7 seed in the upcoming conference tournament which will start on Tuesday, November 5.

Babson held a 23-8 shot advantage over the course of 90 minutes, and were also awarded eight corner kicks to the Lyons' two. In net for the Lyons, Maria-Lucia Delgado (Bronx, N.Y.) made a pair of saves in the first half before getting replaced by Brianna Thompson (El Cajon, Calif.), who played the second half and made eight stops.

It did not take long for Babson to get on the board as Maggie McCabe (Weston, Mass.) found the back of the net just 2:05 into the contest to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Just 10:28 later, the Beavers pushed their lead to a pair when Sydney McLaughlin (Sherborn, Mass.) registered her first goal of the game, making it 2-0, Babson.

Entering the second half, Babson took a three-goal lead in the 72nd minute as Caitlin Trott (North Hampton, N.H.) scored to make it 3-0, Beavers, before Jordan Keovongmanysa (Southbridge, Mass.) converted a feed from Maria Colon Figueroa (Needham, Mass.) in the 82nd minute to make it 4-0, visitors.

Wrapping up the day's scoring, Babson's Grace Smith (Glastonbury, Conn.) got on the scoresheet with a goal at the 1:06 mark, sealing the win for the Beavers.
