Kansas City, Mo. - October 7, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team was recently recognized for their impressive work both on the field and in the classroom, as the Lyons earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, announced late last week.

A total of 648 women's soccer teams across all Divisions posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. The Lyons produced a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.39 during the 2018-19 academic year. 

"We are very excited to earn the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the first time since 2016," said head coach Kanae Haneishi. "Our program is proud of our continued academic success, and it is great to see the recognition from our coaches organization. We are committed to supporting and motivating each other to be the best we can be  both on the field and in the classroom."

This marks the 12th time in program history that the Lyons have earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, and first time since 2016. Under the direction of Haneishi, who started at Mount Holyoke College in 2007, the Lyons have earned the honor six times.

The Lyons will return to action on Tuesday, October 8 as they host Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at 6 p.m. on the MHC Soccer Field.
