Soccer Falls to Clark, 3-0, in NEWMAC Play

South Hadley, Mass. - October 15, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team fell to Clark University, 3-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at the MHC Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lyons fall to 2-11-1 overall and 0-6-0 in league play, while the Cougars improved to 7-5-1 on the year with a 1-3-1 record in the NEWMAC.

Clark posted 41 shots over 90 minutes of play, and were awarded three corner kicks. In net for the Lyons, Maria-Lucia Delgado (Bronx, N.Y.) had an impressive 15-save performance, and is now ranked No. 1 in the NEWMAC for saves with 95 on the year.

Clark opened the game with a lot of pressure on the Lyons' net, as they produced six shots in the first 7:04, two of which were turned away by Delgado. The Cougars finally broke through in the 15th minute when Taylor Barbieri (Glastonbury, Conn.) picked up a loose ball and carried it down the right side of the box, before sending a low cross to the back side of the cage, where Katie Barber (East Hampton, Conn.) tapped the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season, giving Clark a 1-0 edge with 30:39 on the clock.

The Cougars continued to put shots on the Mount Holyoke College goal, but Delgado hung tough, making 11 of her 15 total saves in the first half of play.

Clark added its second goal of the contest 20:05 into the frame as Caroline Wang (Rockville, Md.) sent a long ball into the box that was originally headed by a Lyons' defender, but Inonge Kaloustian (Prince George's County, Md.) was able to get the loose ball and blast a shot past Delgado to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead with 24:55 to play.

With less than 10 minutes to play the Cougars added an insurance tally as Maya Mashkuri (Montpelier, Vt.) ripped a shot from the right side which went through the outstretched hands of Delgado and into the back of the net to seal the 3-0 win.

Up next, the Lyons will return to the MHC Soccer Field on Saturday, October 19 and will host WPI at 2 p.m.
