Soccer Cruises Past SUNY Cobleskill, 7-0

Cobleskill, N.Y. - September 7, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons seven goals marked the most the team has scored in a single game since the 2016 season. With the win, the Lyons also pick up their first victory of the 2019 season, leveling off at 1-1-1. With the loss, the Fighting Tigers are now 1-2 overall.

In net for Mount Holyoke College, Maria-Lucia Delgado (Bronx, N.Y.) earned her first win of the season and made three saves in 64:02 of play before getting relieved by Lea Sleiman (Beirut, Lebanon), who posted one save in the final 25:58 to seal the clean sheet. The Lyons held an 18-6 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, and were awarded a pair of corner kicks compared to SUNY Cobleskill's four.

First-year Tori Tenney (Orange, Mass.) had a five-point performance on the day, netting two goals and dishing out an assist, while Paige Osborne (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Fionna Kennedy (Wilton, N.H.) also recorded their first-career goals in the victory. McKenna Lamb (Redlands, Calif.), Minerva Veeser-Bobea (Arlington, Mass.) and Lilydahn Stewart (Etna, N.H.) also found the back of the net in the victory.

Stewart opened the scoring for the Lyons in the 18th minute when buried her first goal of the season to make it 1-0, before Osborne netted an unassisted strike from 18-yards out towards the top of the box with 10:55 to play in the first half, making it 2-0 Mount Holyoke College. 

Just 6:05 into the second half of play, Lamb scored on a direct free kick from just outside the top of the box, before Veeser-Bobea joined the scoring column, as she was able to convert a breakaway from midfield with 25:52 remaining. Just 3:18 later, Tenney scored her first of the game as she snuck behind the Fighting Tigers' back line and found the back of the net, pushing the Lyons lead to five.

With 12:49 to play, Tenney added her second of the match as she netted a shot from 15-yards out on the right side, before Kennedy wrapped up the day's scoring affair when she was able to collect a rebound following a shot from Tenney and register her first-career goal at Mount Holyoke College.

Next up, the Lyons will head to Western New England on Tuesday, September 10 and will square off with the Golden Bears at 4:30 p.m.
