Soccer to Participate in United Soccer Coaches' Play With Pride Project

South Hadley, Mass. - September 18, 2019 - When the Mount Holyoke College soccer team hosts the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, the Lyons will be participating in the Play with Pride project, sponsored by the United Soccer Coaches LGBT & Allies Advocacy Group from September 16-22.

Each year, United Soccer Coaches provides rainbow shoelaces for college and high school teams that register to participate in Play with Pride Week and is a celebration of Diversity & Inclusion in the game and in our membership.

"Mount Holyoke College soccer is excited to participate in the Play with Pride project in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches LGBT & Allies Advocacy Group this week," commented head soccer coach at Mount Holyoke College, Kanae Haneishi. "We support all sexual orientations and the gender identities of everyone in our community, and I hope that hosting this kind of event will raise the awareness and foster the support of the diversity in our society."

United Soccer Coaches is committed to helping all members learn the importance of inclusion of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community; encourage participation in all activities by LGBT coaches, athletes, referees, administrators and fans; and welcome all allies in our organization's ongoing effort to be a leader of inclusion in the sports world.

The Lyons will be hosting the University of Saint Joseph at the MHC Soccer Field on Wednesday, September 18 at 6 p.m.
