Soccer Falls to Elms, 2-0, in Non-Conference Action

Chicopee, Mass. - September 14, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team fell to Elms, 2-0, in non-conference play at Leary Field on Saturday afternoon. 

The loss drops the Lyons to 1-3-1 on the year as the Blazers improve to 6-2 with the victory. Elms College held a 16-7 advantage in shots, and were also awarded five corner kicks to Mount Holyoke College's one. 

In net, Brianna Thompson (El Cajon, Calif.) made eight saves for the Lyons, as McKenna Lamb (Redlands, Calif.) had a team-high three shots.

After surrendering the first two shots of the game, Sarah Forster (Worcester, Mass.) finally got a bid on cage in the ninth minute, but the chance went high. Lamb would get Mount Holyoke College's next opportunity in the 30th minute, but Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) came up with the save for Elms. In the final two minute of the first half Mikayla McEwen (South Hadley, Mass.) had another shot on target by Molin made another save to keep the Lyons at bay.

Elms got on the board just 9:11 into the second half when Elaina Vilar (Watertown, Conn.) found the back of the net to make it 1-0, before the Blazers pushed its lead to a pair in the 68th minute on a strike from Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, Mass.). 

From there, Lamb put a shot that went right of the cage in the 80th minute but Elms was able to hang on for the victory.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will return home for a contest versus the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, September 18.
