Soccer Drops NEWMAC Decision to Wheaton

Norton, Mass. - October 26, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team fell at the hands of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon, as the hosts defeated the Lyons, 8-0, at Mirrione Stadium.

With the loss, Mount Holyoke College drops to 2-14-1 overall and 0-8 in league play, while Wheaton improves to 8-4-3 on the year with a 5-3 mark in the NEWMAC. The hosts held a 30-5 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, and were granted nine corner kicks. Senior captain McKenna Lamb (Redlands, Calif.) led the Lyons with four shots, while Lilydahn Stewart (Etna, N.H.) added one for the visitors.

Wheaton got on the board with a goal from Chloe Troy (Wethersfield, Conn.) in the fourth minute, as she converted a play that was set up by Jenna Palmer (Cranston, R.I.), before Palmer found the back of the net to make it 2-0 just 11:25 into the contest.

Wheaton added a third in the 19th minute, as Kyla Magalhaes (Naugatuck, Conn.) headed in a corner kick, before Nicole Moody (Dunstable, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals just 7:27 apart to give Wheaton a 5-0 lead at the halftime break.

Opening the second half, Wheaton scored just 5:16 into the frame as Megan Darrell (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored her first, before the senior added her second in the 68th minute to push Wheaton's lead to seven. Rounding out the scoring, Katherine Chura (Metuchen, N.J.) found the back of the net to make it 8-0 in the 74th minute.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will continue NEWMAC play and travel to Northampton, Mass. for a game versus Smith on Tuesday, October 29 at 3:30 p.m.
