Under the direction of interim head coach, Erin Robson, the Mount Holyoke squash team posted an 11-9 record for the 2012-13 season. The Lyons finished with a CSA ranking of 21st nationally.
Mount Holyoke, which won each of its first two matches at the Wesleyan Round Robin, rebounded from a rough stretch mid-way to claim its seventh straight Seven Sisters Championship. The Lyons continued dominance was led by juniors Randima Ranaweera and Shaheen Madraswalla, senior Kathryn Brummer and first year Sherouk Khefagy, all of whom went 3-0 during tournament play. Ranaweera and Brummer, both captains, along with Madraswalla were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Lyons entered the CSA National Championships as the 20th overall seed. Among its Walker Cup (C Division) opponents, MHC was seeded fourth and met fifth-seeded Drexel University in the opener, a narrow 5-4 loss. Mount Holyoke bounced back to post a 6-3 victory over Wellesley and went on to claim the Consolation Championship with a thrilling 5-4 win against Colby.
This year's Nationals was highlighted by Brummer, who not only posted a 3-0 record during the tournament, but was also named the 2013 recipient of the prestigious CSA Wetzel Award. The honor is bestowed annually to the best senior women's college squash player who learned to play in college.
Four Lyons student-athletes finished the season with rankings in the top-120 nationally. Joining Khefagy (56), Ranaweera (66) and Madraswalla (113) was sophomore Samantha Rosado (118).
All four players represented Mount Holyoke at the CSA Individual Championships, which saw Khefagy advance to the semifinals of the Second Round Consolation Final. Khefagy concluded her rookie campaign with a 19-6 overall mark, going 14-4 in the second spot in the ladder. Ranaweera had another outstanding season, posting an overall record of 18-3. She shouldered just one loss during the regular season, going 17-1 from the first position.
