#20 Squash Posts 5-4 Win in CSA Consolation Final Over #22 Colby

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 17, 2013) - Fresh off their victory over Wellesley on Saturday, the Mount Holyoke College squash team posted a 5-4 win over Colby College to win the Consolation Final of the Walker Cup (C Division) at the CSA National Championships. With the victory, the Lyons finish fifth overall in the Walker Cup and conclude the season with an 11-9 team record. The Mules finish sixth in the draw and wrap-up their team season with an 11-13 record.

Mount Holyoke saw solid and strong performances in the first through fifth positions to seal today's victory beginning with junior captain Randima Ranaweera, who battled back from two sets down to take the final three and win by a 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-8 margin over Colby's Kate Pistel. Ranaweera finishes the championships with a 3-0 record and moves to 17-1 on the season from the first position.

First year Sherouk Khefagy moved to 16-4 on the season with an 11-1, 11-6, 11-7 victory over Molly Parsons in the second position, while junior Shaheen Madraswala took down Mules' Julie Wolpow by a 12-10, 11-6, 11-3 margin in the the third position to move to 15-2 on the season. Both concluded the championships with 3-0 records.

Sophomore Samantha Rosado battled to a 2-1 overall record in the tournament as she posted an 11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6 victory over Colby's Tara Tischio, while senior captain Kathryn Brummer defeated Maddie Hunsicker by an 11-6, 11-8, 12-10 margin to cap her record at this year's Nationals at 3-0.

Other solid efforts for the Lyons included sophomore Xianger Fei, who fought through four sets but came up short in an 11-5, 10-12, 11-5, 11-6 loss to Elizabeth Brehman.

Mount Holyoke now awaits the CSA's selection of players to the Individual National Championships, which will be held on March 1-3 at Trinity College.
