#17 Squash Shoulders 7-2 Defeat at #11 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (Jan. 10, 2013) – Despite a pair of strong victories from juniors Randima Ranaweera and Shaheen Madraswala, the Mount Holyoke College squash team could not overcome Middlebury College as the #11 Panthers captured a 7-2 victory on Thursday afternoon. The Lyons, who are ranked #17, slip to 2-3 on the season.

Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School) battled to victory in the first position, defeating Middlebury's Abby Jenkins by a 4-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-4 margin. Madraswala (Mumbai, India/J.B. Petit) was the winner in the third position, posting a hard-fought, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8 victory over Tiffany Hau.

First year Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt/International School of Choueifat) had a tough battle in the second position. After winning the first set by an 11-10 margin, she fell in the final three by scores of 11-7, 11-4 and 11-8.

Senior Kathryn Brummer (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran), playing in just her second match of the season after battling back from injury, had a respective effort in the fifth position. She fell by an 11-6, 11-1, 11-7 margin.

The Lyons return to action on Sunday when they travel to Williams for a 4pm match against the Ephs. Middlebury is back on Friday afternoon, hosting Williams at 4pm.
