#20 Squash Falls to #16 Amherst, 6-3

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Feb. 2, 2013) - Mount Holyoke College got victories from its first three positions, but Amherst College proved too much in the end as the Jeffs claimed a 6-3 victory over the Lyons on Wednesday evening at the MHC Squash Courts. With the win, Amherst, which is ranked #16 in the latest CSA National Polls, moves to 13-7 on the season, while the Lyons, who are ranked #20, are now 8-8 overall.

Junior captain Randima Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School) posted an 11-2, 11-9, 11-7 win against Amherst senior Chandler Lusardi (New York, N.Y./The Chapin School) in the first position. Adding to the win column was first year Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt/International School of Choueifat), who battled to an 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 victory over the Jeffs' Anne Piper (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) in the second flight.

Lyons' junior Shaheen Madraswala (Mumbai, India/J.B. Petit) captured MHC's final win in the third position as she defeated sophomore Arielle Lehman (Greenwich, Conn./Lawrencville) by an 11-5, 11-6, 14-12 margin.

Sophomore Samantha Rosado (Meriden, Conn./F.T. Maloney) lost a hard fought battle from the fourth position as she shouldered a 12-10, 8-11, 8-11, 7-11 defeat to first year Meyha Sud (Mendham, N.J./Newark Academy).

Both squads will have select players heading to the Division III Nationals, hosted by Bowdoin College. Action begins on Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday. The Lyons then host their final home contest of the season, welcoming Smith on Tuesday, Feb. 12th in a 7pm match.
