#17 Squash Falls at #10 Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Jan. 13, 2013) – Mount Holyoke saw several players put forth a number of outstanding efforts, but it wasn't enough as the Lyons fell to Williams College by an 8-1 margin. The #10 Ephs, who also played Bates earlier in the day, improve to 6-7 on the season, while the #17 Lyons fall to 2-4 overall. MHC's lone win came from junior captain Randima Ranaweera, who battled through five sets for victory.

Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School) won at the first position, defeating Williams's Laura Henry by a 6-11, 11-6, 11-13, 12-10, 11-9 margin. First year Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt/International School of Choueifat) also fought hard in the second position but ultimately fell to the Ephs Alli Rubin by a 9-11, 11-9, 13-15, 11-9, 11-7 score.

Junior Shaheen Madraswala (Mumbai, India/J.B. Petit) also played to a tough loss on Sunday, falling to Alyssa Northrup by a score of 8-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10.

The Lyons is now idle until Saturday, when it battles Wesleyan (9am) and Wellesley (12:30pm) in the Pioneer Valley Invitational at the MHC Squash Courts within Kendall Hall Sports and Dance Complex. Williams returns to action on Friday (7:30pm) and Saturday (11am) against St. Lawrence and George Washington, respectively at Yale University.
