#20 Squash Defeats #24 Wellesley to Advance to Consolation Finals at CSA Nationals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 16, 2013) - Paced by victories from the first through the fifth positions, the Mount Holyoke College squash team posted a 6-3 victory over Wellesley College in the semifinals of the consolation bracket in the Walker Cup (C Division) at the CSA National Championships. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 10-9 on the season, while the Blue slip to 8-15 overall.

MHC will now face Colby in the consolation finals on Sunday at 11am. Wellesley will also play on Sunday, facing Connecticut College in the consolation playoffs. 

Junior captain Randima Ranaweera moved to 16-1 on the season with a victory over Rosemary O'Connor. She won by an 11-2, 11-5, 11-4 margin. First year Sherouk Khefagy was also a winner from the second position, cruising past Gabriella Wynne by an 11-1, 11-1, 11-0 score.

From the third position, Shaheen Madraswala defeated Elizabeth Tyson with a score of 11-2, 11-2, 11-3, while sophomore Samantha Rosado bounced back from a heartbreaking loss against Drexel with an 11-3, 4-11, 11-8, 11-4 win over Sara Del Balzo.

Senior captain Kathryn Brummer then defeated Haley Vasquez by an 11-5, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6 margin in the fifth position and sophomore Xianger Fei posted an 11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-7 win over Alexandra Spiliakos to grab a win in the seventh flight and seal the victory.
