#18 Squash Downs #28 Connecticut College, 6-3

NEW LONDON, Conn. (Jan. 23, 2013) - Powered by victories from the top six in its lineup, the Mount Holyoke College squash team posted a 6-3 win over Connecticut College on Wednesday evening. With the victory, the #18 Lyons improve to 4-5 on the season, while the Camels slip to 5-11 overall.

Leading the way was junior captain Randima Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka), who improved to 8-1 on the year with an 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 victory over CC's Caroline Sargent in the first position. First year Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt) battled to an 11-9, 11-8, 11-3 victory against Leah Puklin, while junior Shaheen Madraswala (Mumbai, India) posted an 11-8, 11-5, 11-2 win against the Camels' Ashley Arthur.

Sophomore Samantha Rosado (Meriden, Conn.) then overcame a loss in the second set to post a 3-1 victory (11-7, 4-11, 11-5, 11-4) against Alexis Dittomassi. Senior captain Kathryn Brummer (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) went on to defeat Lucy Wallace by an 11-8, 11-6, 12-10 margin, while junior Elyse Taylor (Mission, Texas) picked up the Lyons final victory, downing Becca Markson by a 12-10, 11-7, 11-6 score.

MHC closes out the week at the Hamilton Invitational, hosted by Hamilton College. Mount Holyoke will face the host Continentals on Saturday (1pm) and then battle Franklin & Marshall (5:30pm). The Lyons then finish out the invite on Sunday against Northeastern (11am).
