#20 Squash Shoulders Pair of Losses in Day 1 of Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. (Jan. 26, 2013) - Junior captain Randima Ranaweera improved to 10-1 on the season as she won in the first position, but it wasn't enough as the #20 Mount Holyoke College squash team fell to #19 Hamilton (6-3) and #14 Franklin & Marshall (7-2) in the first round of action at the 2013 Hamilton Invitational. The Lyons move to 4-7 on the season with the losses.

Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School) posted an 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 victory over Hamilton's Amanda Thorman to continue her outstanding season. In the second position, first year Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt/International School of Choueifat) also continued her impressive start, defeating Hilary Gray by a 10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 margin to move to 7-3 overall.

Rounding out the victories for the Lyons was junior Shaheen Madraswala (Mumbai, India/J.B. Petit), who improved to 5-2 on the year, after posting an 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 victory over Claire Corroon.

The second match saw Ranaweera battle to an 11-7, 12-10, 13-11 victory over the Diplomats' Emily Caldwell. The Lyons other victor was Madraswala, who cruised to an 11-5, 11-8, 11-2 win against Franklin & Marshall's Chelsea Ross.

Mount Holyoke retuns to action on Sunday when it faces Northeastern on day two of the Hamilton Invitational.
