MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Dec. 1, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College squash team opened its 2012-13 slate this weekend at the Wesleyan University Round Robin. The Lyons, who are ranked #17 nationally in the latest College Squash Association poll, posted a 5-4 victory over William Smith College, ranked #27, to open the day's action. MHC went on to defeat #24 Tufts by a 5-4 margin in the evening session.

The Lyons posted victories in each of their top four matches as junior Randima Ranaweera, first year Sherouk Khefagy and sophomores Samantha Rosado and Dachelle Parker all won.

After a tough loss by junior Elyse Taylor to the Herons' Annie Habecker, sophomore Xianger Fei helped seal the Mount Holyoke victory with a 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2 victory over Justine Shank. The win also marked the squad's seventh straight triumph over William Smith.

Against Tufts, the Lyons once again powered their way to victory behind wins from Ranaweera, Khefagy, Rosado and Parker. Taylor, who shouldered a loss in the opening match to the Herons, rebounded to give Mount Holyoke the victory in the nightcap, downing Hafsa Choudhry by an 11-4, 11-8, 11-6 margin.

The Lyons, who are now 2-0 on the season, return to Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 7pm match against the Cardinals to conclude play for the fall term.
