Squash Opens Action at CSA Individual Nationals

HARTFORD, Conn. (Mar. 1, 2013) – Action at the 2013 CSA Individual National Championships began on Friday and four Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were in competition at Trinity College. Juniors Randima Ranaweera and Shaheen Madraswala, along with sophomore Samantha Rosado and first year Sherouk Khefagy all saw action on the opening day.

Ranaweera, a captain out of Colombo, Sri Lanka, posted an 11-3, 11-8, 11-7 victory over Haverford's Caroline Nightingale in the First Round to move on. She then battled Pennsylvania's Courtney Jones in the Second Round, but fell by an 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 margin. Ranaweera will now play in the Second Round Consolation and will battle Williams' Laura Henry at 9:40am on Saturday on court seven.

Khefagy, who hails from Cairo, Egypt, also gained an opening round victory on Friday, defeating Dartmouth's Sarah Louks by an 11-9, 11-4, 11-1 margin. She then moved on to battle Stanford's Julie Koenig, but fell by an 11-5, 13-11, 5-11, 11-8 score. Khefagy will also move into the Second Round Consolation on Saturday and will face Bowdoin's Rachel Barnes at 9:40am on court one.

Madraswala, a native of Mumbai, India, shouldered a 12-10, 12-10, 6-11, 11-9 loss to Bowdoin's Michaela Martin while Rosado, who is from Meriden, Conn., played a pair of matches on Friday. She opened the morning against Williams' Allie Rubin, falling 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 before playing Dartmouth's Melina Turk in the First Round Consolation. She fell 11-3, 11-5, 11-3.

Action at the Individual Nationals continues on Saturday with Ranaweera and Khefagy in action.
