NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 17, 2013) - The College Squash Association (CSA) announced this year's recipient of the prestigious Wetzel Award at the CSA National Championships and Mount Holyoke College senior captain Kathryn Brummer has been chosen for the honor. She was selected from five total nominees, which included players from Wellesley, Smith, Haverford and the University of California Berkeley.

The award is given annually to the best senior women's college squash player who learned to play in college. Winners of the award must show outstanding growth technically as a player (as evidenced by records and results), a sound understanding of the rules of squash, and positive on-court poise and demeanor.

Brummer, who hails from Massapequa Park, N.Y., has been a member of the squash team all four years. This season, she has posted a 11-6 overall record, including a 9-6 mark from the fifth position. She was named the CSA National Player of the Week following a critical win over Wellesley at the Seven Sisters Championship, which helped MHC secure its seventh straight title.

During her career, she has posted a 46-29 overall record, including a 19-10 mark as a junior and a 13-12 record as a sophomore. In addition to representing the Lyons at the CSA Individual Nationals in 2012, Brummer is also a two-time CSA National Player of the Week selection.

The #20 Lyons wrapped up their team schedule on Sunday with a 5-4 win over #22 Colby in the Consolation Finals of the Walker Cup (C Division) at the CSA National Championships. With the win, MHC concluded its team season with an 11-9 record.
