Volleyball Drops Pair on Final Day of Hall of Fame Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 22, 2011) – The 2011 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women's Invitational concluded with 16 matches today on the campuses of Mount Holyoke College and Smith College. Over the course of the weekend, 16 teams from around the region competed at the annual event.

Mollyanne Fitzpatrick After rolling to a 3-1 triumph over Gordon College last night, Mount Holyoke suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Westfield State University and Colby College today. The Lyons were once again led by first year Mollyanne Fitzpatrick, who was named to the All-Tournament Team for her outstanding play throughout the weekend. In three matches, the setter piled up 60 assists and 27 digs.

Fitzpatrick collected her sixth double-double of the season with her 20 assists and 10 digs against Westfield State. Mount Holyoke also received a boost from sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel, who posted 13 kills and 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the year and 12th of her career. Junior outside hitter Kathryn Brummer amassed six kills and 10 digs for the hosts.

The Lyons came up short in their match against Colby despite eight kills and 11 digs from Kneifel. Fitzpatrick dished out 16 more assists. Meanwhile, Brummer posted seven kills and 10 digs. First year defensive specialists Kaleen Iwema chipped in with 12 digs.

Fitzpatrick was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Courtney Faria (Smith), Julia Warner (Westfield State), Si-Si Hensley (Brandeis), Taylor Vail (Bowdoin), Audrey Kuan (Tufts), Raea Rasmussen (Williams), Kristen Robillard (Bridgewater State), Cecily Joujon-Roche (MIT), Kristin Keeno (Amherst), Mary Consol (Springfield), Maggie Taylor (Colby), Joy Kimmel (Gordon), Emily Davisson (Wheaton), Traci Hamanaka (Wellesley) and Jane Handel (Middlebury).

Mount Holyoke (9-14, 2-5 NEWMAC) will resume its NEWMAC slate at home against Springfield on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
