Volleyball Drops NEWMAC Tilt at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 4, 2011) –The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team fell 3-1 to Clark University this evening in NEWMAC action at the Kneller Gymnasium. Sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel delivered 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the way for the Lyons. It was her third double-double of the year and the ninth of her career.

Volleyball Huddle First year defensive specialist Kaleen Iwema finished with 16 digs and a pair of kills. Meanwhile, classmate Mollyanne Fitzpatrick added 12 assists and five digs.

Clark (5-9, 2-3 NEWMAC) was paced by senior outside hitter Amira Tranchell, who recorded 15 kills and 10 digs. Fellow senior Kortney Kelley racked up 23 digs, while senior right side hitters Parker Edmonds and Nicole Sullivan combined for 20 kills. Setters Rachel Spera and Katie Freaney dished out 26 and 15 assists, respectively for the Cougars, who snapped a seven-match slide.

Mount Holyoke (7-5, 1-4 NEWMAC) is slated to participate in the Seven Sisters Championship at Wellesley College over the weekend. The Lyons will face off against Smith College (12:30 p.m.) and Wellesley (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday before tangling with Vassar College (9:00 a.m.) and Bryn Mawr College (11:30 a.m.) Sunday.
