Fourth year head coach Sonnie Terrell guided the Mount Holyoke volleyball team to an overall record or 9-16 in 2011.

Volleyball Celebration The Lyons exploded out of the gate, winning seven of their first 11 matches. Included in that run were 3-1 victories over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Wheaton College.

Sophomore outside hitter Martina Kneifel and first year defensive specialist Kaleen Iwema were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Seven Sisters Championship in early October.

Ten days later, Kneifel lifted the Lyons to a thrilling 3-2 triumph over longtime rival Smith College. It was their first victory over the Pioneers since the 2001 season.

Mount Holyoke hosted the annual Hall of Fame Women's Invitational in late October. First year setter Mollyanne Fitzpatrick was named to the All-Tournament Team as a result of her outstanding production over the course of the weekend. The Lyons opened things up with a 3-0 triumph over Gordon College.

Kneifel finished the year with 2.91 kills and 3.05 digs per set to go with 35 service aces and 16 blocks. The outside recorded six double-doubles and a hitting percentage of .164.

Mount Holyoke also received a boost from Fitzpatrick, who made an immediate impact with 3.90 assists per set and 34 aces. Junior outside hitter Kathryn Brummer collected 1.65 kills and 2.31 digs per set. Meanwhile, Iwema has recorded 3.83 digs per set.
