THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (3-2, 1-1 NEWMAC) has been hot of late, earning victories in three of its last four contests. After downing the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 3-1 on Thursday, the Lyons handed Wheaton College a 3-1 setback on Saturday. They have been paced by outside hitter Martina Kneifel, who has delivered 3.29 kills and 3.06 digs per set while serving up 12 aces. Setters Alison Chu and Mollyanne Fitzpatrick have combined for 142 assists. Meanwhile, libero Kaleen Iwema has racked up 4.28 digs per set. Mount Holyoke has also received solid production from outside hitter Kathryn Brummer, who has posted 2.06 kills and 2.81 digs per set.
THE BEARS: Coast Guard (6-2, 1-1 NEWMAC) has exploded out of the gate, collecting victories in six of its first eight matches. The Bears own victories over Colby-Sawyer College (3-1), Haverford College (3-2), Susquehanna University (3-0), Christopher Newport University (3-2), the Merchant Marine Academy (3-0) and Wheaton College (3-0). They have been led by outside hitter Keriann Mason, who has racked up 3.19 kills and 2.42 digs per set. Setter Karen Matic has accumulated 7.97 assists and 2.39 digs per set, while outside hitter Sam Marmolejo has averaged 3.97 digs. Middle blocker Kelsey DePorto has accounted for 25 of Coast Guard's 57 blocks.
NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke is slated to take part in a tri-match at Elms College on Saturday. After tangling with the Blazers at noon, the Lyons will face off against Castleton State College at 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Coast Guard is scheduled to compete in the Amherst College Invitational this weekend. The Bears will meet up with Middlebury College on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before competing against Brandeis University (11:00 a.m.) and Amherst (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
