  • 2010-11 Volleyball Year in Review

    With third year head coach Sonnie Terrell leading the way, the Mount Holyoke volleyball team recorded an overall record or 9-16 in 2010. The rebuilding Lyons more than doubled their win total from the previous season and captured the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award for the fourth year in a row.
  • Seniors Honored at Scholar Athlete Reception

    Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration last Thursday, 24 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 12 teams were honored as part of the College's third annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

    The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

    Hundreds of Mount Holyoke athletes gathered on Skinner Green this afternoon for a flash mob to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. Members of both varsity and club sports participated in the event, which was designed to showcase the unity that exists among athletes across campus.
  • Volleyball Set to Host 2011 Spring Slam Tournament

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team will be holding its inaugural Spring Slam 3v3 Tournament on Saturday, April 9 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The event will be open to both men and women over the age of 16. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team in each pool.
  • Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value College

    Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.
  • NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference Squads

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2010 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams. Nineteen Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball.
  • Volleyball Claims NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award For Fourth Straight Year

    The NEWMAC recently released its award winners for the 2010 season. For the fourth year in a row, Mount Holyoke claimed the league’s Sportsmanship Award. The Lyons also earned the honor in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
  • Volleyball Overpowers Babson 3-0 in 2010 Finale

    Using a balanced attack, the Mount Holyoke volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-13) triumph over NEWMAC foe Babson College this afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons were paced by sophomore outside hitter Kathryn Brummer, first year outside hitter Martina Kneifel senior setter Kateryna Kuc and senior defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo.

    Mount Holyoke closes out its 2010 campaign versus NEWMAC foe Babson College Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. In 23 previous meetings between the programs, the Lyons own a 15-8 advantage. They fell to the Beavers for the fourth time in a row last season, losing by a score of 3-0.
  • Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Springfield

    The Springfield College volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-13) victory over NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke this evening at Blake Arena. Outside hitters Kathryn Brummer and Martina Kneifel totaled five kills apiece to lead the way for the Lyons. The duo also finished with eight and 10 digs, respectively. Meanwhile, senior setter Kateryna Kuc delivered 15 assists and eight digs.
  • 2010 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women's Invitational

    The 2010 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women’s Invitational concluded today, with Middlebury College and Bridgewater State University winning their respective brackets. A total of 16 teams participated in the 19th edition of the tournament, which was hosted by Smith College and Mount Holyoke College. Led by All-Tournament Team selection Martina Kneifel, the Lyons grabbed sixth place in the Silver Bracket.

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team sustained a heartbreaking 3-2 setback to longtime rival Smith College this evening at Ainsworth Gymnasium. First year outside hitter Martina Kneifel and senior Kateryna Kuc each posted double-doubles to pace the Lyons.

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks at the third annual Little East Conference (LEC) / New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Challenge today in Plymouth, N.H. After falling to Keene State College, the Lyons were downed by host Plymouth State University.

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 setback to NEWMAC foe WPI this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. First year outside hitter Martina Kneifel piled up 15 kills and 21 digs to pace the Lyons, who collected a season best 14 blocks. Senior setter Kateryna Kuc also finished with a double-double on 30 assists and 14 digs.

    Using a balanced attack, the Mount Holyoke volleyball team raced to a pair of victories this afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. After downing the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 3-1, the Lyons blanked Becker College 3-0.
  • Volleyball: Mount Holyoke to Host MCLA and Becker for Tri-Match

    Mount Holyoke hosts the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Becker College for a tri-match Saturday afternoon at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. After facing off against MCLA at noon, the Lyons will meet up with Becker at 4:00 p.m. The remaining match will feature MCLA and Becker at 2:00 p.m. In 13 previous contests against MCLA, Mount Holyoke owns an 12-1 advantage. The Lyons have been perfect in two previous matches against Becker.

    The Clark University women’s volleyball team handed NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke a 3-0 loss this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons were paced by first year outside hitter Martina Kneifel, senior setter Kateryna Kuc, first middle hitter Kristina Weld and sophomore outside hitter Kathryn Brummer, who recorded four kills apiece.

    Mount Holyoke entertains NEWMAC foe Clark University Tuesday evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. In 38 previous meetings between the programs, the Cougars own a 21-17 advantage. They have downed the Lyons six straight times, including a 3-0 victory last fall.
  • Volleyball Takes Part in Wildcat Fall Classic

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team took part in the 2010 Wildcat Fall Classic at Johnson & Wales University this weekend. After their 3-1 loss against Plymouth State University on Friday, the Lyons were blanked by both Johnson & Wales and Western Connecticut State University today. Senior setter Kateryna Kuc represented Mount Holyoke on the All-Tournament Team after totaling 58 assists in three matches.

  • Volleyball Setter Kateryna Kuc Takes Home Lyon of the Week Honors

    Senior volleyball team member Kateryna Kuc has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of September 20-26. The setter piled up 51 assists, 26 digs and 12 kills in a 2-1 week for Mount Holyoke. Kuc was at her best in the Lyons 3-0 victory over Elms College on Saturday, when she exploded for 20 assists, 18 digs and five kills. It was her fourth double-double of the season and 14th of her outstanding career. Later that day, the captain delivered 22 assists and six kills in Mount Holyoke's 3-0 win over Castleton State College. With her 42 assists on Saturday, Kuc became the fourth player in program history to reach 1,000 for her career. In 78 career matches played, she has amassed 1,036 career helpers. The setter has tallied 20 or more assists on 22 occasions. She has also recorded 92 service aces and 532 digs.

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team fell 3-0 to NEWMAC foe Wellesley College this evening at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. First year outside hitter Martina Kneifel totaled three kills and 14 digs to lead the way for the Lyons. Senior setter Kateryna Kuc registered 10 assists and seven digs, while junior middle hitter Tyler Protano-Goodwin added three kills.

    The Coast Guard Academy women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke this evening. The Lyons were paced by sophomore right side hitter Morgan Cooley, who collected four kills. Senior setter Kateryna Kuc notched nine assists, while first year outside hitter Martina Kneifel totaled 10 digs.

    The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team suffered a pair of heartbreaking 3-2 setbacks this afternoon at Wheaton College’s Emerson Gymnasium. After falling to NEWMAC foe Wheaton, the Lyons were edged by Bridgewater State University. First year outside hitter Martina Kneifel and senior setter Kateryna Kuc enjoyed outstanding days.
  • MIT Shuts Down Volleyball, 3-0

    The Mount Holyoke volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to MIT in its NEWMAC opener at the Rockwell Cage this evening. It was the Lyons first loss of the season. They entered the contest riding a three match winning streak.
