Track and Field Closes Regular Season at Wheaton Pre-Post Season Invitational

Norton, Mass. - February 19, 2022 – The Mount Holyoke College track and field team competed in their last regular season indoor meet at the Wheaton Pre-Post Season Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons recorded seven top-10 performances in program history and five Division III New England Indoor Championships qualifying marks.

Starting off the day strong for Mount Holyoke in the field events was first-year Kara Setal (Naugatuck, Conn.) who took second in the weight throw, recording a personal best of 12.20 meters which is ranked sixth all-time in Mount Holyoke indoor track and field program history. First-year Eliza Brown (New London, Conn.) posted a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 10.16 meters, while sophomore Allyson Joseph (Danbury, Conn.) recorded a personal best of 9.13 meters. First-year Chloe Broadwell (Plano, Texas) also collected a personal best in the weight throw posting a mark of 5.91 meters.

In the long jump, junior Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.) notched a personal best of 4.48 meters placing sixth overall. Brown posted a season best in the shot put with a mark of 9.77 meters placing fourth overall.

On the track, Sternberg continued her success as the junior ran a personal best in the 60 meter dash in a time of 8.55 which is ranked eighth all-time in Mount Holyoke program history.

The Lyons had a strong showing in the one mile run where junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) took the victory running a personal best in the mile clocking in a time of 5:10.46. Selkin's performance in the one mile run is ranked No. 2 in Mount Holyoke program history. Senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) finished second finishing in a time of 5:16.47, which is ranked third all-time in program history. First-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) crossed the line in third place notching a personal best finishing with a time of 5:23.85 in the mile and ranks No. 9 all-time in program history. Selkin, Jacob, and Lancaster all qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the one mile run.

In the 400 meter dash, Jacob posted a personal best by finishing third overall with a time of 1:02.50. Sophomore Rocio Perez-Salas (Dorado, Puerto Rico) ran a strong race in the 400 meter dash collecting a personal best of 1:03.38. Jacob's performance in the 400 meter dash is ranked seventh all-time in program history while Perez-Salas's is tenth. First-year Angelina Silva-Perez (Franklin, Mass.) had a collegiate debut in the 400 meter dash recording a personal best of 1:08.86.

Representing Mount Holyoke in the 800 meter run, Selkin finished first crossing the line with a personal best of 2:26.90, qualifying for the Division III New England Championships. Senior Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) notched a time of 2:27.93, which is also a Division III New England Championships qualifying mark. Lancaster recorded a personal best in the 800 meter run posting a time of 2:31.79, while senior Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.) notched an indoor personal record crossing the line in a time of 2:36.96.

In the 200 meter dash, Perez-Salas finished first for Mount Holyoke clocking a personal record of 28.53, while Sternberg collected her third personal record of the day by running a time of 29.64. Senior Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) also posted a personal record in the 200 meter dash finishing in a time of 31.01. First-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) ran a strong race in the 3000 meter run by recording a personal best of 11:34.83 while sophomore Emily Hood (Hardwick, Mass.) notched a personal best of 11:49.90.

Closing out the day for Mount Holyoke, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.), first-year Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.), Rodman, and Kearney ran a time of 4:35.16 finishing third.

Up next, the Mount Holyoke track and field team will send qualified individuals to the Division III New England Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Colby College in Waterville, Maine on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
