Track and Field Brings Strong Performances to Division III New England Championships

Waterville, Maine - February 25-26, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team sent 10 student-athletes to compete at the NCAA Division III New England Indoor Championships hosted by Colby College on Friday and Saturday where senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) earned All New England honors in the 800 meter run and 5000 meter run, respectively.

Starting off the two-day competition on Friday afternoon, Mount Holyoke competed in the distance medley relay of junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.), first-year Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.), senior Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.), and first-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) finished 15th overall recording a time of 13:40.40. Ravino recorded a split of 4:05.8 for the 1200-meter leg, while Beaver ran the 400-meter leg in 1:05.7. Rodman ran the 800-meter leg in 2:38.3, while Johnson recorded a split of 5:50.4 in the 1600-meter leg. Selkin finished fifth overall in the 5000 meter run by posting a personal record of 17:27.93, earning All New England honors. First-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) ran a strong race in the 5000 meter run by clocking in a time of 18:26.74.

The Lyons were off to a great start on Saturday as Lancaster recorded a time of 5:26.97 in the mile, while Jacob finished fifth in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:19.98, earning All New England honors. Senior Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) also competed in the 800 meter run, taking 10th overall and recording an indoor personal record of 2:27.01.

Mount Holyoke ran a strong race in the 4 x 400 meter relay of Johnson, Rodman, Beaver, and first-year Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.), finishing with a time of 4:28.71. Johnson recorded a split of 1:07.8, while Rodman clocked in a split of 1:07.0. Beaver ran her leg in 1:05.1, while Trapp finished for the Lyons running 1:08.5. In the 4 x 800 meter relay, sophomore Rocio Perez-Salas (Dorado, Puerto Rico), Ravino, Nash, and Jacob took eighth overall receiving All New England honors. The relay team finished in a time of 9:49.55 which ranks second in Mount Holyoke indoor track and field program history. Perez-Salas recorded a split of 2:23.1, while Ravino finished her leg in 2:33.0. Nash clocked in a split of 2:28.4 and Jacob finished for Mount Holyoke running 2:24.9.

Student-athletes from Mount Holyoke College will make their final attempts at qualifying for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships this upcoming Saturday, March 5 at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet.
