Selkin and Jacob Break Records at Division III New England Championships

Williamstown, Mass. - May 7, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team had student-athletes competing with some of the region's top talent at the Division III New England Championships this past weekend and turned in a Top-25 team performance.

The Lyons' were highlighted by junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.), who took sixth overall in the 10k and re-broke her previous outdoor track & field program record with at time of 37:03.64. At last week's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, Selkin posted a second-place finish in her 10k debut by recording a time of 37:35.32, breaking the school record by over 20 seconds which was previously held by Katy Trandem who ran a time of 37:55.45 in 2001. First-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) was just behind Selkin and came in seventh with a time of 38:21.41.

Senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) competed in the 800 meter run and took fifth in her section with a time of 2:17.41. Jacob's time of 2:17.41 topped the previous Mount Holyoke outdoor track & field program record in the 800 meter which was held by Langhan Dee, who posted a time of 2:17.72 in 2004. 

The Lyons had a relay in the 4x100 as Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.), Addison Heintz (Apex, N.C.), Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) and Leah Pendl-Robinson (Branford, Conn.) combined for a time of 53.46 seconds. In the 4x400, the team of Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.), Lancaster, Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) and Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) placed sixth in their section with a time of 4:33.8.

Wrapping up in the 4x800 meter relay, Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.), Selkin, Jacob and Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) placed sixth in the second section with a time of 9:58.64.
