Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Wesleyan Swanson Classic

Middletown, Conn. - March 26, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team brought strong showings to their first outdoor track and field meet in almost three years at the Wesleyan Swanson Classic on Saturday. The Lyons recorded five top-10 all-time performances in Mount Holyoke College outdoor track and field program history.

Starting out the day strong for the Lyons was first-year Helen Frank (Rochester, N.Y.) in her collegiate debut who took eighth overall in the pole vault by posting a mark of 2.20 meters which ranks fourth all-time in Mount Holyoke outdoor track and field program history. Junior Emma Doyle (Lebanon, N.H.) placed ninth overall in the hammer throw recording a mark of 30.35 meters. Sophomore Allyson Joseph (Danbury, Conn.) finished seventh in the shot put by notching a personal record of 10.07 meters which ranks tenth-best all-time in Mount Holyoke program history, while first-year Erin Siegel (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a personal best of 7.97 meters. Joseph also finished first for the Lyons in the javelin, placing tenth overall by posting a collegiate-best mark of 21.66 meters. Wrapping up the field events for Mount Holyoke, junior Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.) recorded a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 9.50 meters which is a tenth-best all-time mark in Mount Holyoke program history. 

On the track, first-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) notched the victory in the 10,000 meter run in her outdoor collegiate debut by crossing the line with a time of 40:56.90. Senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) finished second overall in the 1500 meter run, posting a personal best of 4:52.96 which ranks second all-time in Mount Holyoke track and field program history, while junior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.) placed tenth overall in the 400 meter dash by recording a personal best of 1:07.41. 

First-year Addison Heintz (Apex, N.C.) was the first finisher in the 100 meter dash for Mount Holyoke, finishing in a time of 13.69, while Sternberg posted a personal best of 13.88. In the 800 meter run, Jacob finished second overall recording a time of 2:24.16 which ranks seventh all-time in Mount Holyoke program history. First-year Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) recorded a personal best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.62, while senior Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.) posted a personal best of 2:34.35. In the 200 meter dash, Heintz notched a collegiate personal best by crossing the line with a time of 28.90, followed by senior Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) who posted a personal best of 30.50.

Up next, the Mount Holyoke College track and field team will travel to Medford, Mass. to compete at the Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday, April 2.
