Track and Field Has Impressive Showing at Coast Guard Winter Invitational; Selkin Breaks School Record in 3k

New London, Conn. - February 5, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team traveled to compete at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational where the Lyons placed fifth scoring 49 points. Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) competed at the NEICAAA All New England Championships hosted at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center where the junior broke her school record in the 3000 meter.

Selkin was the sole competitor for Mount Holyoke at the NEICAAA All New England Championships. The junior placed fourth overall in the 3000 meter run and was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the field. Selkin broke her own school record with a time of 10:03.57 that was set a week ago at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic. The 3000 meter performance of 10:03.57 marks a 4.71 second personal best for Selkin.

At the Coast Guard Winter Invitational, first-year Emma Doyle (Lebanon, N.H.) started the day for Mount Holyoke in the weight throw with a mark of 11.03 meters. Eliza Brown (New London, Conn.) continued the Lyon's success as the first-year set a collegiate-best mark of 9.63 meters in the shot put for sixth place. Junior Lucy Sternberg (Stronington, Conn.) placed fifth in the long jump setting a mark of 4.28 meters, while first-year Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) tied for third in the high jump with a mark of 1.46 meters. Mallare's mark is ranked eighth all-time for Mount Holyoke track and field program history. 

On the track, Mallare continued her success placing third in the 55 meter in a time of 7.90 seconds. First-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) placed fourth in the one mile run, setting a personal record with a time of 5:27.88 which ranks ninth all-time in program history. Junior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.) finished fifth overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:11.62. 

Rocio Perez-Salas (Dorado, Puerto Rico) collected a first-time collegiate win in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:49.21, followed by junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) who placed second setting a personal record of 1:50.86. Senior Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.) debuted her 2021-22 indoor season in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:44.15.

Butler continued her success placing fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.93 seconds. First-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) finished the day setting a 5000 meter track personal record of 20:47.49. 

Up next, select members of the Mount Holyoke track and field team will travel to Boston, Mass. to resume competition at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 11.
