Track and Field Shines at Boston University Valentine Invitational

Boston, Mass. - February 11, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team sent five student-athletes to compete at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday where all five student-athletes set personal records in their respective events. 

First-year Tessa Lancaster (Manchester, Mass.) started out the day strong for Mount Holyoke as she cruised to a personal record in the 5000 meter run by 1:12 after clocking in a time of 18:10.84. This puts Lancaster fourth all-time for Mount Holyoke indoor track and field program history and is the her third Top-10 performance. The Lyons continued their success as senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) ran a personal best in the 800 meter run by posting a time of 2:19.25. 

Junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) collected a two-second personal record in the 800 meter run, finishing in a time of 2:27.36, while senior Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) finished strong in her first 800 meter run of the 2021-2022 track season, crossing the line in 2:27.50 marking an indoor personal record in the 800 meter. Later in the evening, junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) ran in the seeded section of the 5000 meter run finishing with a personal record of 17:29.58. 

Up next, select members of the Mount Holyoke track and field team will resume competition at Boston University while the team will also compete at the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday, February 12. The meet at MIT is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. and the BU Valentine Invitational will last all day.
