Track and Field Brings Strong Performances to MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational

Cambridge, Mass. - February 12, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team traveled to compete at the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational where the Lyons notched four Top-10 performances in Mount Holyoke indoor track and field program history.

Starting off the day strong for Mount Holyoke, first-year Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) had a successful performance in the high jump by posting a mark of 1.48 meters which ties for sixth all-time in program history. Junior Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.) recorded a mark of 4.29 meters in the long jump, while sophomore Allyson Joseph (Danbury, Conn.) notched a mark of 9.10 meters in the shot put. Finishing off the success for the field events for Mount Holyoke, junior Emma Doyle (West Lebanon, N.H.) posted a mark of 10.27 meters in the weight throw.

On the track, first-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) started off the day for Mount Holyoke in the 3000 meter run, clocking in a time of 11:50.88. Senior Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) competed in the 400 meter dash, posting over a four-second personal record by finishing in a time of 1:10.97. 

In the 600 meter run, junior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.) notched a personal record by posting a time of 1:51.37, while senior Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.) followed with a personal record in the 600 meter run, recording a time of 1:52.71. 

Mallare continued her successful day by posting a time of 8.33 seconds in the 60 meter dash which is a fourth-best performance in program history for Mount Holyoke. Sophomore Rocio Perez-Salas (Dorado, Puerto Rico) ran a strong race in the 800 meter run by clocking in a time of 2:25.60 and finishing in first place. Perez-Salas's performance is ranked ninth all-time in school history.

First-year Julia Burm (Hingham, Mass.) was the sole competitor for Mount Holyoke in the 1000 meter run, posting a time of 3:44.26. The Lyons collected the victory in the 4 x 400 meter relay by posting a time of 4:19.38. Perez-Salas, senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.), Butler, and junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) were on the winning team that posted a seventh-best all-time performance in the 4 x 400 meter relay in Mount Holyoke program hsitory. 

Continuing the success for Mount Holyoke, the Lyons took second in the 4 x 800 meter relay by recording a time of 10:59.49. Representing Mount Holyoke was first-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.), Rodman, sophomore Emily Hood (Hardwick, Mass.), and Burm.

Up next, the Mount Holyoke track and field team will travel to Norton, Mass. to compete at the Wheaton Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
