Four Track and Field Athletes Compete at John Thomas Terrier Classic; Selkin Breaks School Record in 3k

Boston, Mass. - January 28, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team sent four student-athletes to compete at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday evening where junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) broke the school record in the 3000 meter run.

Selkin broke the 3000-meter school record by 12.44 seconds, crossing the line with a time of 10:08.28. This marks over a 44-second personal record for the junior. The record was previously held for 18 years by Johanna Thomas who ran a time of 10:22.72 in 2004.

Continuing the Lyon's success was senior Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) who ran a personal-best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.52. Jacob's mark is the program's second highest all-time performance for the indoor 800 meter run. Up next for the Lyons was Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) where the junior ran 2:31.95 in the 800 meter run, followed by first-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) who ran her 3000 meter debut with a time of 10:45.26. Lancaster's mark is the program's seventh highest all-time performance for the indoor 3000 meter run.

Up next, select members of the Mount Holyoke track and field team will travel to Boston, Mass. to resume competition at the NEICAAA All New England Championships hosted at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Friday, February 4. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
