Mendiola Named to WGCA All-East Region Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) has announced the 2012-13 student-athlete and coaches awards for Division III Women's Collegiate Golf and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Madi Mendiola was named to the All-East Region Team. She is one of 10 players selected for East Region honors. 

The sophomore from San Diego, Calif., had another outstanding season for the Lyons, posting the top scoring average in school history (79.88). Mendiola paced Mount Holyoke in all eight meets this season, including recording six top-10 finishes.

Among her top performances was during the first two weeks of the season where she placed fifth overall at both the New York Invitational and the Mount Holyoke Invitational. Mendiola then claimed second overall at the Middlebury Invitational, just two strokes behind the first-place finisher and was also second at Wellesley's Ann S. Batchelder Invitational to close out the fall action.

In the spring, Mendiola continued to impress, placing fifth overall at the Inaugural Liberty League Championship. As a top-five finisher, she garnered All-Liberty League First Team recognition. She concluded her second-year with a seventh-place mark at the Williams Spring Invitational.

A four-time Liberty League Performer of the Week, Mendiola finished eighth or better in six matches this season with her two finishes outside the top-10 (both were in the top-14).

The former Rancho Bernardo High School standout was among the best players in Division III this season. She concluded the year with a ranking of 32nd overall.

In 2011, her first collegiate season, Mendiola posted the second best scoring average in school history (81.27). In addition to five top-ten finishes, she ended the season ranked 12th in the region.
