Golf Concludes Day One at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Paced by sophomore Madi Mendiola on day one, the Lyons golf team sits 13th of 15 teams at their own Mount Holyoke College Invitational at The Orchards. MHC combined for a score of 380 through the first round, while Williams currently holds the lead through 18 holes with a score of 315.

Mendiola (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) shot a 76 on day one and sits in a tie for third with Merrimack's Jessica Ngui. Both are just three strokes back from first place holder Elizabeth Monty of Amherst.

Senior Felicitas Gerlach (Munich, Germany/Munich International School) is the the next closest in the team scoring, sitting 48th overall with a score of 91. Sophomore Hannah Falvey (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is 72nd with a score of 98, while first year Hannah Lozinski and senior Lee Anglin (Milton, Mass./Milton) are 80th and 85th, respectively with scores of 115 and 127.

Also competing as individuals for the Lyons are sophomore Rebecca Berger (Princeton, N.J./The Hills School) and first year Katie Poulin. Berger had an impressive opening round, shooting an 89 overall to sit in 38th overall, while Poulin recorded a 140 on day one of her first collegiate match.

Heading into the final day of action on Sunday, Williams looks to hold off Wagner, which is currently second with a score of 324. Merrimack is one stroke back in third with a 125, while Middlebury and Ithaca round out the top five with scores of 328 and 331, respectively.

Action at the Mount Holyoke Invitational wraps up tomorrow starting at 8am.
