Golf Finishes 5th at Liberty League Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Apr. 14, 2013) – Sophomore Madi Mendiola earned All-Liberty League First Team honors after helping the Mount Holyoke College golf team finish fifth among its conference rivals at the 2013 Liberty League Championship. The Lyons finished ninth overall in the Vassar College Invitational, which ran in conjunction with this year's tournament.

In Liberty League action, the Lyons finished fifth among the seven conference teams with a combined score of 808. After shooting a 418 on day one, the squad stepped it up in Round 2 with a combined tally of 390. Leading the way was Mendiola, who garnered her First Team honors after shooting a combined 166 on the weekend.  She had an 86 in Round 1, but lowered it to an 80 on day two. Overall in the field of Invitational participants, Mendiola was 14th.

Sophomore Hannah Falvey was 19th among the league participants and 39th overall with a score of 189 (98-91), while first year Hannah Lozinski placed 28th (48th overall) with a combined tally of 225 (115-110). Senior Lee Anglin was 30th (50th overall) with a mark of 228 (119-109), while first year Katie Poulin rounded out the finishes in 32nd (52nd overall) among the conference's 36 performers with a score of 237 (122-115).

Winning this year's Championship title was New York University, which posted a combined score of 656 (327-332), while host Vassar was second with a score of 676. Wellesley finished third (724), followed by St. Lawrence (733), Mount Holyoke (808), William Smith (809) and Union (1004).

Individually, St. Lawrence's Claire O'Neil took medalist honors and was named the Liberty League Player of the Year after posting a score of 158 (74-84).

For the overall Invitational, Williams claimed victory with a score of 637, followed by Middlebury (644) and New York University (659) to round out the top three. Ephs' standout Georgiana Salant was the top overall finisher, earning top honors with a combined score of 150 (71-79).

The Lyons are back in action next weekend when they compete in the Jack Leaman Championship. Day one begins on Saturday in Amherst before concluding on Sunday in South Hadley at The Orchards.
