South Hadley, Mass. - October 4, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team fell to nationally-ranked Babson College, 6-2, at the MHC Turf and Track Complex on Saturday afternoon. Mount Holyoke College and Babson College, along with the seven other New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) teams in action today took part in National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Play 4 the Cure, which raises awareness and financial support for cancer research through the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR).

With the loss, the Lyons are now 4-6 on the year with a 1-3 record against league opponents, while the Beavers improve to 8-3 overall, and are now 3-0 in the NEWMAC. Babson held a 20-14 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play, while the Beavers were awarded six penalty corners compared to Mount Holyoke College's five.

In net, Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) and Maddie Miller (Marblehead, Mass.) split the duties, as Turner made seven saves in the first half, while Miller made four stops in the second half. For Babson, Cassidy Riley (Catonsville, Md.) made three saves in the win.

Babson College scored just 1:25 into the contest when Ellie Bisceglia (Kenilworth, Ill.) set up Millie Brady (Far Hills, N.J.) for her first goal of the game to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead, before the visitors extended their lead to a pair on a goal from Tori Roche (Andover, Mass.) with 4:53 to play in the first quarter.

Babson College was able to tack on another before the end of the first quarter as Brady found the back of the net with 15 seconds left in the frame to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead at the end of one.

The green and white kept the pedal down in the second quarter as Maddy Paro (Manchester, Conn.) picked up the ball at midfield before carrying it into the Lyons' defensive arch and firiing a shot past Turner to make it 4-0 with 2:23 to play in the first half. With 31 seconds left before the halftime break, Babson scored their fifth goal of the game when Roche hammered home a rebound in front of the net to make it 5-0 at the half.

It took just 3:53 into the second half for Babson to score their sixth of the game, when Miller made an initial save on Brady's chance, but Quinn Greer (Providence, R.I.) was first to the rebound and fired it into the back of the net to make it 6-0.

After a scoreless remainder of the third quarter, Mount Holyoke College finally got on the board with 11:06 remaining as Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) made a nice move to get free inside the arch before blasting a shot past Riley for the Lyons' first of the game. Mount Holyoke College would add a goal late in the contest, as Mirei Golding-Powers (San Francisco, Calif.) sent in a shot from the right side that deflected off of a Babson defender and into the back of the net, making it 6-2 with 41 seconds to play.

Up next, the Lyons will travel to Boston, Mass. for a 4 p.m. contest with Simmons College on Tuesday, October 8.
