Field Hockey Cruises Past Simmons, 3-0, in Non-Conference Play

Boston, Mass. - October 8, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Simmons at Daly Field on Tuesday afternoon. Mirei Golding-Powers (San Francisco, Calif.) got things started with a goal in the first quarter, before Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif.) and Kass Lawrence (Holyoke, Mass.) both found the back of the net in the second half to seal the victory for the Lyons.

With the win, Mount Holyoke College is now 5-6 overall, while the Sharks fall to 5-8 on the year. In net for the Lyons, Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) made seven stops in her fifth win of the year, while her counterpart, Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) made eight saves in 60 minutes of play. The Lyons held a 13-8 shot advantage over four quarters, while Mount Holyoke College was also awarded 12 penalty corners to the Sharks' eight.

Just over eight minutes into the contest, Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) ripped a shot following a penalty corner which was sent in by Golding-Powers. After McNamara made the intitial save on Robb's bid, Golding-Powers followed up and found the back of the net to make it 1-0, Lyons, with 6:54 to play in the first quarter. 

Golding-Powers sent in another penalty corner just over five minutes into the second quarter and both Robb and Laurissa Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) were able to get off scoring chances, but McNamara made both stops to keep Mount Holyoke College's lead at one. 

It took just 1:23 for the Lyons to push their lead to a pair in the third quarter as Robb sent a long pass from the right side that found the stick of Brooks her third goal of the season. 

After back-and-forth play with a 2-0 lead, the Lyons got an insurance tally from Lawrence as Abby Baldwin (Florence, Mass.) made a great pass to the back side of the net from the right side that the sophomore was able to tap in with 1:17 to play, sealing the 3-0 win.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will return to the MHC Track and Turf Complex on Thursday, October 10 and will host Endicott College at 7 p.m.
