South Hadley, Mass. - October 10, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team fell to Endicott College, 6-0, at the MHC Turf and Track Complex on Thursday evening.

With the loss, the Lyons are now 5-7 overall, while Endicott improves to 10-4 on the year. The Gulls recorded 20 shots over 60 minutes of play, while the Lyons were held to just 14. Mount Holyoke College also had eight penalty corners compared to the Gulls' four.

In net, Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) played three of the four quarters and made three saves, before Maddie Miller (Marblehead, Mass.) came in and made three stops of her own in the final 15 minutes. 

Endicott College struck just 3:19 into the contest off of a penalty corner sent in by Lilia Smith (Middlebury, Vt.) which was stopped by Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.), who slid a pass over to Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.), before the senior blasted a shot past Turner to give the Gulls an early 1-0 advantage.

With 4:45 to play in the first quarter, Endicott extended its lead to a pair when Julie Champigny (Acton, Mass.) picked up a loose ball in front and lifted a shot past Turner, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead after one quarter of play. With less than 90 seconds to play in the frame, Mount Holyoke College had its best chance as Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) let a shot go after a penalty corner which hit the post and rolled across the goal line, but was cleared away before a member of the Lyons could tuck it into the back of the net.

Endicott College pushed their lead to three just 1:01 into the second quarter when Jaylin Grabau (Lynnfield, Mass.) ripped a shot towards goal, which was tipped into the back of the net by Addi Williams (Pittsfield, Maine). Keeping the momentum going, the Gulls took a 4-0 lead just 1:15 later when Blake Braman (Clinton, Conn.) found the back of the net off of a loose rebound in front.

Opening up  the second half of play, Mount Holyoke College scored with 3:54 to play in the third quarter as McCarthy notched her second of the game, before completing the hat trick just 1:09 into the fourth quarter to seal the win. 

Up next, the Lyons will head to Wellesley College on Saturday, October 12 for a 1 p.m. contest in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
