Mendiola Named ECAC Golfer of the Month

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its Golfer of the Month recipients for April and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Madi Mendiola was recognized. She was the Division III co-recipient of the honor posting an outstanding month of golf, culminating with the Lyons first conference championship title.

A native of San Diego, Calif., Mendiola earned top honors by the Liberty League twice and finished ahead of all conference competitors in two of three events for April. She finished fourth of 64 at the Vassar College Invitational, garnering Performer of the Week for her efforts, with a combined score of 158 (78-80). As a team, MHC placed seventh overall with a score of 671 (342-329).

Mendiola then tied for 10th of 87 at the Jack Leaman Invitational with a combined score of 161 (79-82) as the Lyons placed sixth with a combined score of 657 (332-325). For her efforts, she was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week. In the regular season finale, Mendiola was second of 35 at the Liberty League Championship, finishing just one stroke out of first place with a combined score of 161 (81-80). The Lyons went on to win the Liberty League Championship by a 21-stroke margin with score of 672 (341-331).

A five-time recipient of the league's Performer of the Week honor this season, Mendiola played in eight tournaments this season, recording an average score of 79.88 over 16.0 rounds, which ties her school record mark from a season ago. She finished 13th or better in all eight meets this season, including six tournaments in the top nine. Mendiola's efforts helped the Lyons to a fifth-place ranking in the region and a 30th overall ranking in Division III. 

The former Rancho Bernardo High School standout, who has earned nine Liberty League Performer of the Week honors since the Lyons joined the conference in 2012 played in 16.0 rounds for an average score of 79.88 during the 2012-13 season. That mark was the all-time best in program history. Additionally, she finished eighth or better in six of eight meets and concluded the year ranked eighth in the region and 32nd in Division III.

During her rookie campaign, Mendiola appeared in eight tournaments, playing in 15.0 rounds for an average score of 81.27, which was the second-best scoring average in school history. She also finished eighth or better in five of eight meets and ended the season ranked 12th in the region.
