Golf Finishes Seventh at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team wrapped-up action at the Vassar Invitational on Sunday, finishing seventh overall among a field of 12 teams. The Lyons posted a total score of 671 in the two-day event, led by the efforts of junior captain Madi Mendiola, who finished fourth overall.

After shooting a 78 on day one, Mendiola concluded the event with a second round score of 80 to finish with a combined total of 158.

First year Caroline Rubino rebounded from an 87 on day one to shoot a 79 on day two. Overall, she placed 15th at the event with a score of 166.

Classmate June Conti finished 24th overall on the day, posting a combined score of 170. She shot an 87 in round one and lowered it on day two with a score of 83. Fellow first year Allison Shilling, who posted a score of 92 on day one, countered with a mark of 87 on day two to place 36th overall with a score of 179.

First year Amanda Lee rounded out the team scores in 46th, shooting a combined score of 184 (90-94). Individually, MHC first year Heeamin Lee finished 29th overall with a total score of 171 (88-83), while classmate Kelly McElreath placed 55th overall with a combined score of 195 (101-94).

Williams claimed victory at this year's meet with a total score of 633. Ithaca finished second (650), while SUNY Cortland (658), NYU (662), Middlebury (665) and Amherst (669) rounded out the field ahead of the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it travels to Amherst to compete in the Jack Leaman Invitational. Day one will take place at Amherst, while day two is scheduled to be held at The Orchards, MHC's home course. Stay tuned to the website for updates on location confirmation or changes.
