Golf Sweeps Weekly League Honors for Third Straight Week

TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in golf and Mount Holyoke College student-athletes Madi Mendiola and June Conti have been recognized. Mendiola was named the Performer of the Week, while Conti was the Rookie of the Week honoree. Both helped the Lyons to a fifth-place finish at last weekend's Williams Fall Invitational.

A junior captain from San Diego, Calif., Mendiola finished third overall at Williams with a score of 154. She shot a 77 in both the First and Final Rounds to record her highest finish of the season thus far. Additionally, Mendiola was the top Liberty League finisher at the meet.

This is the third top-six performance of the year for the former Rancho Bernardo High School standout, who finished fifth at the season-opening NYU Invitational and was sixth at the Middlebury Invitational.

Mendiola has now garnered Liberty League Performer of the Week honors in each of the last three weeks. She has now garnered seven weekly honors since the Lyons joined the conference in the fall of 2012.

Conti, a first year out of Amenia, N.Y., garnered her second weekly honor after placing fifth overall at the Williams Invite with a score of 155. Day one saw her post a score of 80, but she rallied on day two to post the second lowest score on the afternoon, a 75.

It has been an outstanding season for the former Miss Porter's School standout, who has finished top-20 in all four meets thus far. She opened the season with a 14th place finish at NYU and picked up her first Rookie of the Week honor after finishing 15th overall at the MHC Invite. Conti also posted 16th at the Middlebury Invitational as the Lyons posted third overall as a team.

The golf team returns to action this weekend in their final match of the fall. The Lyons head east to compete in the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College on Saturday and Sunday.
