Golf Currently 2nd at Liberty League Championships

BERNARDSTON, Mass. - After the opening day of action at the 2014 Liberty League Championships, hosted at the Crumpin-Fox Club, the Mount Holyoke College golf team sits second of seven teams. The Lyons, who are vying for their first conference title, posted an opening round score of 341 and sit eight strokes back behind first-place NYU. Leading the way for MHC is junior captain Madi Mendiola, who sits third overall.

Mendiola opened with a score of 81 in the first round. She sits two strokes behind second-place Kristina Shalhoup of NYU (79) and five strokes behind St. Lawrence's Claire O'Neil, the overall leader with a score of 76.

First year Heeamin Lee is locked in a tie for fifth after posting a score of 84, while classmate June Conti is tied for ninth with a score of 87 in the opener. First years Allison Shilling and and Amanda Lee round out the efforts for Mount Holyoke. Shilling is currently 12th overall, posting a score of 89, while Lee sits 17th after day one with a score of 93.

NYU leads the team scoring with a total of 333. MHC (341) is second, followed by St. Lawrence (360), Wellesley (372), Vassar (377), William Smith (403) and Union (496).

Action at the Liberty League Championship concludes on Sunday, beginning at 9am.
