Golf Finishes 4th at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Another strong performance in the final day of play propelled Williams College to victory at the 2013 MHC Invitational, hosted by Mount Holyoke College at The Orchards Golf Club. The Ephs saw all five of their players finish in the top-15, while Ithaca's Sharon Li took medalist honors with an outstanding score of 150 for the tournament.

It was a beautiful day of action for the Final Round, which was dominated by Li, who shot an amazing 73 on day two over the Par-71 course. She lowered her score by four strokes from the previous day (77). Cortland State's Rebecca Studin, who was tied for first after the opening round with a 75, continued her solid play on day two as she placed second overall with a score of 77 for a two-day total of 152.

Williams' Shelby Shote and Middlebury's Michelle Peng tied for third with a score of 153, while Georgiana Salant, also from Williams, rounded out the top five with a score of 154.

For the homestanding Lyons of Mount Holyoke, junior captain Madi Mendiola finished 13th overall, shooting an 80 on day two for a two-day score of 162. First year June Conti was close behind, posting a combined score of 163 (81-82) to finish 15th overall, while classmate Allison Shilling was 29th with a score of 170 (87-83). First year Caroline Rubino had one of the best improvements in round two, posting a score of 81 after recording a 90 on day one. She finished with a mark of 171 - good for 31st. Amanda Lee rounded out the efforts for the Lyons first group, finishing 47th with a score of 178 (90-88).

Williams won with a score of 619 (304-315), followed by Ithaca with a 631 (317-314). In third was Middlebury, which had a mark of 637 (315-322), and Mount Holyoke was fourth overall with a score of 666 (340-326). Cortland State was fifth (668), while New York University (671), College of Holy Cross (675), Amherst (677), St. Lawrence (708) and Wellesley (709) rounded out the top-10.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it travels to Vermont to compete in the Middlebury College Invitational. The event begins on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
