Golf Finishes 4th at NYU Invitational

SUFFERN, N.Y. - Action at the 2013 NYU Invitational has concluded and after two days of competition, the Mount Holyoke College golf team finished fourth of 11 competing teams. The Lyons, who moved up three spots from seventh after day one, was led by junior captain Madi Mendiola, who finished fifth overall.

Mendiola (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo), who posted a score of 77 on day one, followed it up with a 79 on day two for an overall mark of 155. First year Caroline Rubino (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Freehan) and classmate June Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) both finished in a tie for 14th overall with a score of 166. Rubino shot a 79 on day two after posting an 87 on day one, while Conti had a score of 84 and rebounded for an 82 in the final round.

First year Allison Shilling finished 38th overall, shooting an 87 on day two. She moved up from 44th on day one after posting a score of 94. Rounding out the team score efforts for the Lyons was first year Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School), who was 41st with a score of 183 (96-87).

Also competing for Mount Holyoke as an individual was first year Kelly McElreath (Oakland, Mich./Notre Dame Prep), who was 57th overall after shooting a 219 in the tournament.

Williams College won the meet, shooting a combined score of 625. Middlebury placed second with a score of 652, while host NYU was third with a score of 653. The Lyons were just off the pace with a mark of 668 for fourth.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Saturday when it hosts it's own MHC Invitational at the Orchards Golf Club. The meet begins on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
