Golf Currently 7th After Day 1 at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Three players hold the lead after day one of the MHC Golf Invitational, hosted by Mount Holyoke College at The Orchards Golf Club. Williams College, which features one of the leaders, is a the top of the pack having shot a 304 on day one. The host Lyons are currently seventh overall in the tournament, which features 14 teams.

On a day that featured sunshine, wind and rain, Williams' Georgiana Salant, Middlebury's Michell Peng and Cortland State's Rebecca Studin have set themselves apart, each shooting a 75 through the First Round of the Par-72 course.

Williams' Shelby Shote and Kelly Kung are both tied for fourth overall with scores of 76, while Ithaca's Sharon Li, Middlebury's Monica Chow and Sarah Hasselman, also from Williams are tied for sixth overall with a score of 77.

Rounding out the top-10 from today's action was Lana O'Connor from Westfield State, Theodora Yoch from Middlebury and Lisa Calcasola from Ithaca.

For the homestanding Lyons, first year June Conti paces the way, sitting 13th overall with a score of 81. Junior captain Madi Mendiola is 20th with a score of 82, while first year Allison Shilling is 36th after shooting an 87. First years Caroline Rubino and Amanda Lee are tied for 45th overall, both shooting a 90 on the day.

Williams leads the field with a score of 304, followed by Middlebury (315), Ithaca (317) and Cortland State (326). New York University is fifth (338), while Amherst (339), Mount Holyoke (340), College of the Holy Cross (341), St. Lawrence (354) and Wellesley (359) round out the top-10.

Action at the MHC Invitational concludes on Sunday with the day beginning at 8:30am.
