Golf Finishes 3rd at Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team wrapped-up the fall portion of its season on Sunday, finishing third overall at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. The Lyons compiled 660 points and trailed only Amherst and invite winner Williams in the eight-team field. MHC was led by junior captain Madi Mendiola and first year June Conti, who both finished in a tie for ninth overall.

Mendiola (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) rallied on day two, shooting a 77 after posting an 85 through the first round, while Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School) recorded a 79 on day one and an 83 in the final round. Both finished with a combined 162.

First year Allison Shilling (New Caanan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) finished 16th overall with a combined score of 167 (81-86), while fellow rookie Caroline Rubino (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Freehan) was three strokes behind with a combined 170 (82-88) - good for 17th.

First year Heeamin Lee (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) finished in a tie for 26th, shooting a 179 overall (92, 87), while individually, rookie Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School) was 29th with a score of 182 (92-90).

Kelly McElreath (Oakland, Mich./Notre Dame Prep), also a first year, wrapped up the efforts for the Lyons, finishing 43rd with a score of 218 (105-113).

Williams took each of the top three spots individually with Georgiana Salant earning medalist honors with a score of 149 (77-72). The Ephs won the invite with a score of 619 and were followed by Amherst (649), Mount Holyoke (660), New York University (667) and Vassar (703).
