Volleyball sweeps Nichols and Fitchburg State in home tri-match

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team recorded its 10th and 11th victories of the season on Saturday as the Lyons hosted a tri-match with Nichols College and Fitchburg State in Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

Mount Holyoke (11-13) defeated Nichols (15-8) by a 3-0 score (25-15, 25-17, 25-21) on Saturday morning, before also sweeping Fitchburg State (8-14) by a 3-0 score (25-11, 25-15, 25-18) in the afternoon. Nichols defeated Fitchburg 3-0 in the neutral-site match played in-between.

The Lyons will host Clark University on Tuesday at 7pm in their final NEWMAC match and home match of the season. Fans are encouraged to attend in Halloween costumes, and there will be a costume contest, with judges including recently inaugurated college president Danielle Holley.

Mount Holyoke 3, Nichols 0 (BOX

Mount Holyoke hit at an impressive .333 percentage in the first set and held Nichols to -.034 attacking for the match to set a winning tone for the day.

Sophomore Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) had a match-high 10 kills and four aces, junior captain Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) added seven kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) had six kills and a career-high eight blocks. Sophomore Amelia Ringor (West Lafayette, Ind.) had a match-high 19 digs and first-year Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) added 16 digs. Sophomore Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) totaled 21 assits, two kills, and three aces.

Haylee Granato had five kills to lead the visiting Bison.

Mount Holyoke 3, Fitchburg State 0 (BOX)

Barton posted 13 kills and three aces, while Rimando tallied nine kills on 19 attempts (.421) to pace the Lyons to their second win of the day.

Mount Holyoke attacked at a .202 rate for the match, its third-best of the season.

Berclaz tallied eight kills, 10 digs and three aces. Duffrin also had 10 digs to go with 27 assists and three aces, and Staples posted a match-high 11 digs and three aces.

Stephanie Sardella had four kills to lead the Falcons (8-14).
