Volleyball opens Saturday at Eastern Connecticut; play home opener Sept. 7

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Looking to carry momentum forward from its first winning season since 1992, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team opens the 2023 season by playing a pair of matches this Saturday, Sept. 2 at Eastern Connecticut State University, followed by their home opener against the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Sept. 7.

The Lyons' schedule starts off with a scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 31 at Amherst College, preceding the 28-match slate comprising the regular season.

League play in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) begins Sept. 19 at Smith College. The NEWMAC portion of the schedule expands to 11 matches this season with the addition of Salve Regina to the conference. Mount Holyoke will host Salve Regina on Sept. 23, as part of a tri-match with Anna Maria College, in first of two home tri-matches the Lyons host this season.

Having graduated a strong class of four seniors from the 2022 season, all of whom logged major minutes, Mount Holyoke has a young squad in 2023, led by seventh-year head coach Iris Carpio and junior captain Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.).
