Volleyball sweeps Bay Path at home

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team rose to 8-0 all-time against Bay Path University and snapped a five-match skid with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18) victory over the Wildcats Friday night in Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

Sophomore Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) posted 10 kills on 15 attempts for a sparkling .600 attack percentage, and sophomore Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) had a team-high 11 kills in the victory.

Anastasiya Tsetko led Bay Path (9-8) with 11 kills, eight more than any teammate, and added 12 digs. Zyiasia Knighton had a match-high 18 digs for the Wildcats.

Mount Holyoke (9-12) got 23 assists, three kills and four aces from sophomore Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.), 12 digs and five aces from first-year Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.), and a team-high 15 digs from sophomore Amelia Ringor (West Lafayette, Ind.). Junior captain Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) posted five kills and eight digs.

The Lyons led the first set from wire to wire, beginning with an ace by Duffrin and continuing on to leads of 9-2 and 21-11. First-year Serena Li (Scarsdale, N.Y.) had a kill to end the set at 25-17.

There were five tie scores and three lead changes in the second set, but the Lyons finished it with seven straight points to pull away from an 18-17 score, with Staples serving out the set and capping it with an ace.

Bay Path came back to tie the third set at 7-7 after Mount Holyoke jumped out to a 5-1 lead. A kill by Barton returned the lead to the Lyons for good. Leading 23-18, Mount Holyoke closed out the match with a service error and an attack error by Bay Path.

Mount Holyoke returns to NEWMAC action on Tuesday with a home match against Coast Guard, beginning at 6pm.

Bay Path will play a pair of matches Saturday at Westfield State, beginning with a 1pm match against Bridgewater State.
