SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Junior Jessica Drent headed in her first career goal to even the score in the 79th minute, as the Mount Holyoke College soccer team salvaged a 1-1 tie against Wheaton College on Senior Day Saturday at MHC Soccer Field.

The host Lyons (3-4-5, 0-2-3 NEWMAC) tied the visiting Lyons (6-4-5, 2-2-3 NEWMAC) one year after defeating them 1-0 to break up a 12-game losing streak against their NEWMAC rivals.

Wheaton took a 1-0 lead with just seven seconds remaining in the first half, as Kate Wickenheisser took advantage of a brief defensive miscue by Mount Holyoke, tracking down the ball on the right side of the penalty area and dribbling around junior goalie Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) to free up a wide-open shot from close range. The goal was Wickenheisser's first this season.

Mount Holyoke evened the game with 17:02 remaining. A looping entry ball into Wheaton's penalty area was misplayed by a defender, allowing senior Hannah Ellis (Londonderry, N.H.) to control the ball and take it to the end line. A perfectly placed left-footed cross passed the face of the goal before Drent (Kapa'a, Hawaii) charged in to meet it with her forehead, driving the ball into the right-side netting to tie the score at 1-1. The assist was the first of Ellis's career.

Wheaton held a 17-12 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 difference in shots on goal. Patricia Bandrup made four saves for Wheaton, while Govea made seven saves for Mount Holyoke.

Both teams return to action with NEWMAC games on Wednesday, as Mount Holyoke plays at Clark University at 7pm and Wheaton hosts Salve Regina at 3:30.
